Site Sustainability on Institutional Campuses

Every development today is being challenged to become greener, be LEED certified, and reduce its impact on the environment. Institutions—unlike for-profit developers who sell the completed development deal—maintain ownership in their projects for the life of the building and therefore have a greater interest in lasting sustainable solutions. This seminar includes case studies of institutional responses to sustainable site development opportunities.

Colorado Landscape Architecture Licensure Deadline 

The deadline for Licensure by Prior Practice (the “grandfathering” clause) is December 31, 2008. If you are interested in applying for licensure in this manner.please take note of this deadline and apply immediately.

Beginning on January 1, 2009, application by prior practice is closed. Further information is available at www.dora.state.co.us/la/index.htm.

Colorado Landscape Licensure Fees 

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies reports that the new licensure application fee has gone up to $425. The fee for licensure renewals will be $375. Renewal notices will be mailed in December with a deadline of January 31. The state reports the following 2008 licensure statistics (to date): 637 LA applications received, 533 approved, 83 pending, 21 denied.

Weathering the Storm: Low Impact Development (LID) Conference and Vendor Fair for the Construction and Development Industry in Northern New England

Submissions for the fourth biannual Public Space Awards, sponsored by the Vermont chapters of AIA, APA, VUFC, ASCE, and ASLA are due November 7. Register by November 14 for early-bird rates!

Topics include:

Environmental and economic benefits of LID, latest findings on the performance of LID practices in cold climates, case studies of New England LID projects, and a choice of workshops on day two: LID Design Practicum, UNH Stormwater Center Tour, or Landscaping at the Water’s Edge.

Who Should Attend:

Developers, home builders, engineers, architects, landscape architects, contractors, and others involved with real estate development, site design, and stormwater management in northern New England.
