The charitable arm of ASLA Colorado, Jane Silverstein Ries (JSR) Foundation, selected High Country News as the recipient of the 2009 JSR Award. Each year the JSR Foundation honors one individual, group, or organization who demonstrates a pioneering sense of awareness and stewardship of the land in the Rocky Mountain region. The foundation honors pioneer landscape architect Jane Silverstein Ries, FASLA, by promoting the quality of the built environment and the conservation and stewardship of our natural environment.
Founded in 1970, the High Country News (HCN) has maintained a commitment to environmental stewardship, diversity, and social responsibility that gives an added resonance to this unique Western voice. HCN covers the American West's public lands, water, natural resources, grazing, wilderness, wildlife, logging, politics, communities, growth, and other relevant issues now changing the face of the West.
